National Parks and Preserved Landscapes of Ohio and the Midwest

The Southwest is defined by geology and light. Vast plateaus, deep canyons, volcanic remnants, and towering rock formations are shaped by erosion, elevation, and extreme contrast between sun and shadow. These landscapes often feel timeless, with minimal vegetation and expansive skies allowing form, color, and atmosphere to take center stage.

National Parks and Preserved Landscapes of the Mountain West

This regional collection highlights nationally recognized parks, monuments, and historic corridors that reflect the Midwest’s role in conservation, civil rights, aviation, governance, and westward expansion.

  • Cuyahoga Valley National Park:  A preserved river corridor and forested landscape situated between Cleveland and Akron, balancing natural restoration with historic infrastructure.
  • Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument:  A nationally significant site honoring military service, leadership, and civil rights through the legacy of Colonel Charles Young.
  • Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park:  Preserved sites connected to the Wright brothers and the birthplace of aviation, reflecting innovation rooted in place.
  • Huffman Prairie Flying Field:  The landscape where controlled, powered flight was refined, now preserved as part of the nation’s aviation heritage.
  • Hopewell Culture National Historical Park:  Ancient earthworks and ceremonial landscapes created by Indigenous cultures, preserved for their archaeological and cultural importance.
  • Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail:  A congressionally designated trail tracing the Corps of Discovery’s route westward, with Midwestern river corridors playing a foundational role.
  • Thomas Jefferson National Expansion Memorial:  A national monument marking westward expansion and the Mississippi River’s role in shaping the country’s growth.

Together, these sites reflect how the Midwest contributed to national identity through exploration, innovation, service, and preservation.

Why Ohio & Midwest National Park Art Matters

My Ohio and Midwest National Park art prints are created to honor places where landscape and history are inseparable. Photographing preserved river valleys, historic aviation fields, and nationally significant monuments allows me to capture scenes that feel grounded, reflective, and enduring. These images offer a meaningful alternative to stock photography and are especially well suited for healthcare environments, professional spaces, educational settings, and homes where calm, heritage, and a sense of place matter.
