Fiery Frozen Gateway Arch No. 2

The Story:      The St Louis Skyline and Gateway Arch during a fiery red sunset as witnessed across the frozen Mississippi River.  This January evening served as a continuation of cold harsh weather which impacted the upper mid-west. Sensing an opportunity for the setting sun to illuminate the clouds from underneath, I headed to the river to witness a brief and amazing light show as the clouds transitioned from dreadful muted tones to wildly warm hues, then to darkness all in a few brief minutes.

The Rest of the Story:  A few years ago, the US Postal Service reached out to me regarding this image.   In a process that took a couple of years, this image became part of the USPS Stamp Series, Mighty Mississippi.   Though the USPS holds the copyright when in stamp form, I still retained the copyright to the actual image which allows me to sell unique prints.  Additionally, in receiving an invitation to the First Day of Issue ceremony, I was able to obtain the ceremony program, as well as the signatures of the dignitaries seated next to me at the post-ceremony signature table.   In an extremely small print edition 1 of 4, and 1 of 6, check out these unique First Day of Issue Mighty Mississippi framed prints.

If you are looking for more St Louis Skyline artwork, check out my Gateway Arch Gallery featuring colorful sunsets and even the 2014 solar eclipse!  Of course, there is more to St Louis than just the river so check out this St Louis Gallery, which features scenes from Forest Park!

I’ve created a slightly wider panoramic print of the same scene titled:  Fiery Frozen Gateway Arch No. 3.
